The foundation of our faith

TOPIC:
THE FOUNDATION OF OUR FAITH -  LOVE
 TEXT:  EPHESIANS 2:8-9

Grace, grace, God's grace, Grace that is greater than all our sins!  A grace we do not deserve, a grace that is indeed greater than all our sins. Can we take a moment from the busyness of life to reflect on the kind of love that must have brought about this grace? Indeed, we are truly loved by the almighty.

The thought of God's undeserving love for us should humble us and be the reason we strive to please Him daily. Our desire to be Gods children in words and in deeds should come from nothing else but love. This is because we do not deserve to be loved the way he has loved us. In addition, we cannot measure the height and depth of his love for us. With this knowledge, what manner of people are we ought to be? Do we keep tearing one another down, do we keep allowing the traditions of men and hearsay rule our lives?

Make up your mind today to learn on his love, for it is real as the air we breathe. Let this love rule our hearts so we can teach it to our spouses, children and all those we meet. If they go astray at any point, the act of love will remain in their hearts and will help them find their way back to God. Finally, whenever we find it hard to do the right thing let's remember that God did the right thing for us at a time when we did not deserve it. God bless you.

PRAYER:Oh Lord!  How I have made mockery of your love towards me. Please let your love change me for good in Jesus name. Amen.

Good name is better than silver and gold

" THE CHURCH OF CHRIST"

Daily Call. MONDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2018

TOPIC: GOOD NAME IS BETTER THAN SILVER AND GOLD
 TEXT:  11 TIMOTHY 2 :20 - 21

"In a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, ...if a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work". (2 Tim. 2 : 20 - 21). It is the duty of every Christian to prepare his or her mind before it can be purged to do good works. And if there is proper preparation, he or she will produce a powerful performance or good works.
Nothing else is more fulfilling than the awareness that one is living a purposeful life in God's Kingdom. Capable hands were chosen in 2 COR. 8 : 15 - 23 to complement the efforts of Titus to collect the benevolent fund, and two men were chosen for this purpose "according to their works". Similar selection was done by the Apostles in Acts 6 : 1 - 4 where seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom were selected among the multitude of the disciples.

"Good name", Solomon said, " is better than silver and gold", Paul had his name to protect, so he has to be very sure of the integrity of the brothers being sent to collect the benevolent fund. He knows what it takes to be faithful and full of the spirit- this had been shown to everyone in his words and deeds. "Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you" (Phil. 4 : 9). Honest things we need to think about are expressly stated in Phil. 4 : 8, and if we really take our time to do this, we will become a useful vessel for the work of God.
Paul told the elders in Ephesus, "I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel. Yea, ye yourselves know that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me" (Acts 20 : 33 -34). These words remind us of honesty and contentment- we need these qualities to become Christians of good report.

PRAYER:  Holy GOD, help me to be a vessel of honour in your kingdom in Jesus' name. Amen.

THE BENEFIT OF GODLY EXERCISE

If you put these instructions before the brothers and sisters, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound teaching that you have followed. 7 Have nothing to do with profane myths and old wives’ tales. Train yourself in godliness, 8 for, while physical training is of some value, godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 9 The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance. 10 For to this end we toil and struggle, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe. (1 Tim. 4:6-10, NRSV)

1. In ancient Greece, every town had a gymnasium.
2. The word “exercise” comes from the Greek word gumnazo, which pictured “Greek atheletes engaged in athletic exercise in gymnasiums.”
3. Paul frequently used familiar figures (as did the Lord) to teach spiritual lessons (e.g., the soldier, warfare, a temple with Christ being the chief cornerstone, etc.).

WHO IS A PASTOR

The denominational concept of a preacher and his responsibility as set forth in a popular denominational creed-book that reads:
“A pastor is a preacher who has charge of Circuits, Stations, or Missions” (i.e., a church or group of churches – example mine).
Such a concept is not found in Scripture, and indicates a misunderstanding of the work of pastor and preacher as defined in the New Testament.
The New Testament pictures the pastor as an elder, overseer, or bishop (Acts 20:17; Acts 20:28; 1 Timothy 3:1). This man has to be found meeting certain God-given qualifications (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:1-9), and, along with other such men, “Shepherd the flock of God” which is among them, “serving as overseers” (1 Peter 5:2), taking “care of the church of God” (1 Timothy 3:5). The pastor [elder] may also be a preacher, as was Peter (1 Peter 5:1), but the terms are not synonymous — and neither is their work.
The preacher is simply a “herald” who proclaims God’s word (1 Timothy 2:7; 2 Timothy 1:11) and is instructed to “do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry” (2 Timothy 4:5). As such, the preacher has no spiritual oversight and is not a pastor [elder, overseer, etc.] by virtue of his preaching work.

WHERE TO BE SAVED

CAN  ONE BE SAVED OUTSIDE THE CHURCH OF THE NEW TESTAMENT?

All things that are in the word of God can be known absolutely by just believing and taking it as final. They have to do with our salvation and  Christian living. The word of God is not complex for people to understand with little or no explanation. These are simple, undeniable and indisputable Scriptures. God has made them plain and  irrefutable. Jesus Christ built His own Church according to his promise, Matt. 16:13-18, He is the ONLY FOUNDATION of His Church. 1Corinth. 3:11. In Rom 16:16, it is addressed as "THE CHURCHES OF CHRIST "
